The Guest Registration Book: What It Is and Why It Matters to You
The Guest Registration Book: What It Is and Why It Matters to You
It is Slovak law, not our preference
Every accommodation provider in Slovakia must keep a guest registration book (kniha ubytovaných). The requirement comes from Section 24 of Act No. 253/1998 Coll. on the reporting of residence of citizens of the Slovak Republic. It applies to every type of accommodation, from hotels to private apartments.
Foreign guests fall under an additional rule — Section 113 of Act No. 404/2011 Coll. on the residence of foreigners. We complete the official residence notification form and deliver it to the police within five days of your arrival. Slovak citizens do not need this form; the entry in the registration book is enough.
What we record
full name;
number and type of identity document (ID card or passport);
permanent address;
arrival and departure dates;
nationality and date of birth — for foreign guests.
That is the complete list. We do not ask for your national identification number (rodné číslo), we do not photocopy your documents unnecessarily, and we never use this data for marketing.
City accommodation tax
Bratislava levies an accommodation tax under municipal regulation. We are responsible for collecting and remitting it, which is why your stay dates are recorded in the same book. Certain guests are exempt — for example, those aged 62 and over. If an exemption applies to you, tell us when booking and bring supporting documentation: we are required to keep a copy on file.
Your data is protected
We process personal data in line with GDPR. The legal basis is compliance with a statutory obligation, so no separate consent is required — but by the same logic, we collect nothing beyond what the law explicitly demands. Data is shared only with state authorities in the cases the law provides for, and retained only as long as tax and administrative rules require.
How we make it faster
We send an online check-in form before your arrival. Fill it in ahead of time and all that remains on the day is picking up the keys. No paperwork, no queue, no spelling your surname twice.
Questions about registration or a tax exemption? Message us before arrival and we will sort it out in advance.
